Mental Blocks

Objective

The objective is to clear a target number of blocks from each level thus allowing you to move to the next level. There are 64 blocks on each level. The target number that must be cleared changes with each level. It is indicated in the lower right corner of the console as “Remaining Blocks”. As blocks are cleared, this number will decrease to indicate how many more must be cleared to complete the level.

Removing Blocks

When you place your cursor over a group of blocks, all of the blocks in the group will be highlighted by yellow lines. Click within the group and the blocks will be cleared. Any blocks above the cleared blocks will drop down into the empty spaces and then move to the right to fill any open spaces.

The minimum number of blocks that can be cleared in any move is indicated by the small blue blocks in the lower left corner. Three blocks indicates that you must have at least 3 adjacent blocks of the same color before you can clear them.

Scoring

  1. Each level assigns a base value for each block.  This value increases with each new level.
  2. The block value is multiplied by the number of blocks that are cleared at one time and an additional value is added so that clearing 4 blocks gives you more points than clearing 2 blocks 2 times.  (Hint: Plan your moves so that you can remove as many blocks of the same color at the same time. Scores increase significantly when you remove large numbers of blocks in a single move.)
  3. The total value for clearing a group of blocks decreases as the move timer counts down.
  4. If you let the move counter go all the way down, then it will start deducting points from your accumulated total.
  5. A clean-up penalty is also deducted at the end of each level for any blocks not cleared.
